Our campaigns
Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability
As a successful finance practitioner in his professional career, Rusty believes in strong fiscal financial responsibility & accountability. He plans to look into Daly City’s revenue and expenditures, re-evaluate budgets, and where possible, support and divest more funding to programs benefitting the Daly City residents.
Public Safety & Healthcare
Daly City is still a safe city.
However, the recent news about rise in crime and possible hate crimes cases make it more critical for a diverse city like Daly City to protect the community. Daly City should provide more support and funding to safeguard constituents from crime and emergency situations. Rusty will work hard to find budget efficiencies and allocations for fire services, law enforcement, additional training, and forming smaller city volunteer teams for medical services.
Updated and enhanced infrastructure in Daly City is another element of public safety that Rusty plans to address. Rusty will look to avoid and decrease vehicular accidents by repairing local street roads, improving street signs and speed limits for drivers, reviewing and installing pedestrian crossings in high risk areas of the city, and improving signs for bicycle lanes and school zones.
Community Programs for the Elderly and Disabled
Now more than ever, with the current state of the economy, we need to band together to assist the disabled, elderly, and economically-disadvantaged constituents.
Rusty Bernardo hopes to be able to address the direct impact of rising costs of living by aiding the creation of food banks, raising food bank supplies and inventory, offering free or discounted rates on city facilities for groups providing care, entertainment, or athletic activities for the elderly and disabled communities.
Affordable Housing
Due to the high cost of buying residential homes, many first time buyers and long-time Daly City residents have expressed thoughts of leaving our city. It almost happened to me many years ago, but I’m grateful I was fortunate enough to stay.
If elected to the city council, I plan to find ways that we can make affordable housing more accessible to a wider range of constituents. Many can afford monthly mortgages, but not the down payment, or vice versa.
Let’s accelerate looking for unused and available lands and support financing the building of affordable housing for our residents.
Diversity
My campaign supports and encourages diversity and inclusion of people from different social and ethnic backgrounds. We must recognize, respect, understand, and accept our differences based on ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability, race, and sexual orientation.
Community Cleanliness Programs
Driving through our Daly City neighborhoods on a regular basis, I have seen large trash bags, bed cushions, old and broken furniture, etc. left on our streets.
Our city needs to increase programs on cleanliness, and regularly enforce ordinances regarding illegal dumping of large items on the streets.
Adopt city-funded cleanliness program teams. Make our city clean and beautiful by rewarding contributors and hard workers in the city.
